In August 2003, Chan Poling Music and Pixel Farm merged in a brand-new state-of-the-art
scoring facility located in Pixel Farm’s new 2nd level expansion now
known as Chan Poling Pixel Farm Music where Mr. Poling brings his experience
and talents in composing music for picture and oversees a stable of innovative
writers and musicians.
Chan Poling Pixel Farm Music has clients which include
Mercedes Benz, Colgate, Target, Best Buy, Marshall Fields, Mattel and more.
Chan Poling has been in the business of writing and entertaining
since 1977 when his rock band, "The Suburbs", got their first
recording contract with Twin/Tone Records in Minneapolis, MN.
He has since gone on to record music internationally
for Polygram Records, A&M Records, Universal Music and Restless/BMG.
His songs for that group and others have charted in Billboard, CMJ,
NME England, etc. and still receive play on radio, television, sporting
events, and all manner of interesting venues.
Chan's work in the theater has previously included
scores for the acclaimed French/American troupe: Theatre de la Jeune
Lune, including "Children of Paradise: Shooting a Dream"
(Winner NY Theater Critics Award: Best New Play, TIME and NEWSWEEK
magazine spreads, etc.), "Cyrano", the musical "The
Nightingale" and "1789: The French Revolution".
Chan was recently commissioned by Kevin McCollum (the producer of Tony award-winning "Avenue Q", "Rent", "De La Guarda", etc.) to write the songs and score for a new musical, "Heaven" with the playwright Craig Wright ("The Pavilion", HBO's "Six Feet Under", etc.). This is what Mr. McCollum said about Chan in an interview published in the Minneapolis Star Tribune: "He's a true artist and a true team player. He's a voice we need to listen to. He’s a great music storyteller.” Mr. Poling continues to write songs and develop stories for musical theater.
Chan's television music credits include songs on "The
Roseanne Show", "Melrose Place", "General Hospital",
"The Tom Show", "EXTRA", "Regis & Kathy Lee",
"NOVA" and "The Revolutionary War" for PBS and many
award-winning documentary scores, one of which: "Iron Range: A People's
History", won Chan an Emmy.
His feature film music scores includes "Back
to Back" (director: Roger Nygard, "Trekkies") for
HBO, "Snow" (director: Eric Tretbar, nominated for a Best
Director Spirit Award) seen on the Sundance Channel, "Bill's
Gun Shop", and other award-winning indie films.
